Next Generation CM/ECF (NextGen)

Next Generation CM/ECF (NextGen)

NextGen is coming March 22, 2021!

Due to the upcoming migration to NextGen, CM/ECF WILL BE UNAVAILABLE FOR FOUR DAYS - FROM  7 p.m. THURSDAY MARCH 18, 2021 THROUGH 8 a.m. MONDAY, MARCH 22, 2021If you need to file documents with the Court during those FOUR DAYS, please drop off documents as directed outside each clerk’s office.  NOTE THAT THE DROP BOXES IN THE MAIN FLOOR LOBBIES OF THE TWIN CITIES COURTHOUSES ARE FOR FILINGS FOR THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT ONLY, AND NOT FOR BANKRUPTCY COURT FILINGS. The documents will be docketed once CM/ECF is available, and will be treated as filed on the date they were received.

NextGen is the culmination of a multi-year project headed by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts to provide for the current and future filing and case management needs of all CM/ECF users.  The NextGen system will provide users with several benefits, including the ability to maintain a single login and password for electronic filing and PACER access in all federal courts (Bankruptcy, District and Appellate).  This central sign-on feature allows access to all courts in which you have permission to file.

In order to prepare for NextGen, you must complete a few preliminary steps.  Follow the steps here to prepare your account for the transition to NextGen.

Note: You will continue to use your CM/ECF login and password to electronically file in CM/ECF courts, which have not completed the transition to NextGen.  To see a list of the courts currently using NextGen CM/ECF, click here.  Eventually, NextGen CM/ECF will be instituted in all federal courts (bankruptcy, district, and appellate).
